Bordeaux for dinner, cheese for dessert |
Normally trying wine from a new place wouldn't be that high on my "I have never..." list; however, I recently read an article on a scientific study that showed the Bordeaux region of France may soon become unsuitable for growing grapes as a result of changes in climate. Some people may see that as a reason to hold on to bottles of wine from that region as long as possible, but I saw as a reason to try it out and see what I thought about it. After all, how can I know if Bordeaux is worth holding on to if I don't know whether I like it or not? In other words, I'll use any excuse I can to open a bottle of wine.
With that in mind, I grabbed the bottle of Bordeaux and some glasses as soon I arrived home from work today. Knowing my plan for the day, Rachael surprised me with some delicious cheeses she picked up on her way home, which added nicely to the day's experience. We invited a friend of ours, Allison, over to help us put the bottle to bed, and together we spent the waning hours of the evening chatting and drinking. As we caught up with Allison I took time to note the taste and texture of the wine. My thoughts? Bordeaux gained its reputation for a reason.
The wine was delicious. The company was grand. It was a great way to end a busy day, and it was a great new experience that will likely force me to find space for another wine rack...
